Dear Parents,

The Okolona School District will be closed on Thursday, March 1, 2018 to support the Okolona Chieftains Boys Basketball Team as they play in the Mississippi High School 1A Basketball Playoffs.  Okolona High School (23-2) will play East Marion (22-3) at 10:30am at the Mississippi Coliseum.  The Okolona School District will be closed on Monday, March 5th and on Thursday, March 8th if the basketball team wins both the quarter finals and semi-finals basketball games.

As we hastily approach the end of the third nine weeks grading period, the faculty, staff, and administrators are in need of your cooperation and your support as we together prepare students for success on all State exams.  The following is a brief listing of educational parenting tips that can be used to help your child experience academic success in the classroom:

  1. Make sure your child is at school every day.
  2. Encourage your child to exhibit good behavior, listen to teachers, and to put forth his/her very best effort in school each day.
  3. Provide your child with a quiet learning area whereby he/she may complete all homework assignments upon arriving home from school.
  4. Check your child’s homework. Make sure all homework assignments have been properly completed.
  5. Keep in contact with your child’s teacher by phone and/or email.
  6. Make sure that your child/children attend After-school tutorials and MAAP Boot Camps in March and April.

Third Nine Weeks Exams will be given February 28 through March 9, 2018.   I am thanking you in advance for your cooperation and support with this educational matter.  With kindest regards and great appreciation, I am,

Educationally yours,

Dexter Green

Superintendent of Education
