Dear Parents,

The Okolona School Board, students, teachers, staff, and administrators sincerely thank you for your generous donation of $1,123.26 at the Community Heritage Program to help support the Dual Enrollment Scholarship Fund with Itawamba Community College (ICC).  All funds collected will be used to assist students who have met the qualifications for dual enrollment at ICC.  The total cost for students participating in dual enrollment courses at ICC is $2,220.00.  We are still in need of $1,076.74 to cover total cost for dual enrollment.  The Okolona School District cannot use district funds to pay for dual enrollment courses.  However, you may make tax deductible donations to the Okolona School District Dual Enrollment Scholarship Fund to further help students take advantage of college online courses while still in high school.  You may submit cash or check to Mrs. Trimble, Business Manager on the second floor in the Okolona Elementary three-story building.

The Okolona High School Boys Basketball Team is currently ranked #1 in the State of Mississippi for Region 2A with a 23-1 record.  Make plans to attend the final home basketball game on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 6pm as we celebrate Senior Night.  During half-time at the basketball game, we will ask for a monetary donation to help cover cost for the Dual Enrollment Scholarship Fund.  Let us all continue to give our students the support and encouragement they need to excel academically in our classrooms and athletically on the basketball court.

As we guard against stiff Mississippi State education legislation, it’s with utmost importance that our schools and community unite in support of student academic achievement.  If we are to reach the goal of becoming a “C” successful performing school district, we must remain focused on students and teachers performing at very high levels in the classrooms.  We must demand excellence from our students, teachers, and administrators.  Encourage your child/children to put forth his/her best efforts in the classroom every day.  Demand that they listen and follow adult instructions at all times.  Finally, we must form strong positive partnerships that are fueled by trust and support for one another.  When we all work together for the betterment of children, educational miracles can and will happen!

Educationally yours,

Dexter Green

Superintendent of Education
